Get Rich Quick is an experimental Australian Feature film, written, produced and directed by Sydney Indie filmmaker Sam Genocchio. His debut feature packs one hell of a punch for a film made on such a meagre budget, primarily because some of the best actors and crew in town worked on the film for free. The story starts as a corrupt detective interrogates an unlucky surfer called Boaz, revealing a month of madness for a bunch of bizarre characters. In a series of interconnected stories with a loose theme of ‘Crime doesn’t pay’, the underbelly of Sydney is pierced divulging it’s edgy, outlandish and crazy soul. An amphetamine addict and a heroin addict try to go straight. A gang of crazy outlaws go on a sex filled crime spree, a modern artist drug dealer is murdered by his muse, an art dealer dies in a closet having autoerotic sex. Cricket corruption of the highest order is exposed, and all the characters end up in a bank in Byron Bay, leaving just one of them with all the money. ‘Get Rich Quick’ is an uniquely Australian character driven
cult film independently produced along the lines of films such as
‘Bad Taste’, ‘El Mariachi’ and ‘Clerks’,
with a ‘Short Cuts’, ‘Pulp Fiction’ story style and the raw,
hardcore mode of ‘Snatch’ and ‘Run Lola Run’, all cloaked
in a naturalistic, original Australian idiom.
